Rev. Dr. John E Allen - Pastor

John is from Clay and Braxton Counties in Central West Virginia, a graduate of Sutton High School. He is a second career person having entered into full time ministry in 1981. He attended under graduate school at Glenville State College, earned his Master of Divinity from United Theological Seminary; Dayton, Ohio and earned his Doctor of Divinity from United Theological Seminary; Dayton, Ohio mentored by  Rev. Dr. Mike Slaughter and Rev. Tom Tumblin of the Ginghamsburg Church. John is happily married to Donna his wife of  40 years. They have two children John Wesley and Aaron, and 4 grandchildren. John came to the Spruce Street Church June 2007. He enjoys the outdoors, writing, sports, and the precious time he gets to spend with family and friends.

Brent Nicholas - Director of Music Ministries

Brent is from Clay, WV. He received his undergraduate degree in Music Education from West Virginia Institute of Technology where he studied piano with Olive Meyers and conducting and voice with Guy Owen Baker. He received his Masters in Music degree from West Virginia University where he studied choral conducting with Dr. Kathleen Shannon. Brent has taught choral music at Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, WV, WVU and Alderson-Broaddus College, and is currently Director of Choirs at Morgantown High School in Morgantown, WV where he teaches guitar and conducts five choirs. Brent is married to Kim who is also a teacher in Morgantown, and they have two beautiful children, Courtney and JJ.


Penny Turley - NOW Director

Penny celebrates 50 years as a Methodist this spring. She was born in Charleston, WV. She attended schools in Kanawha County and graduated from Welch High School in 1963. She was married to the late Rev. J. William "Bill" Turley on Janaury 9, 1962. Their children are Tracy Ann Williams of Anderson, SC, Joellen Trippett of Morgantown, and Matthew Turley of Gettysburg, Pa. Her grandchildren are: Caitlin & Justine Culhane, and Harrison Turley.  

Pennny graduated from Fairmont State College in 1986 with an Associate Degree in nursing. She became a Registered Nurse. Her nursing career and ministry of 16 years was professionally served at Mon General Hospital, Morgantown. 

Penny brings diverse experiences to her new position of NOW Director having already served in the Methodist Church in various functions and offices for nearly 50 years, including being a United Methodist Pastor's spouse. She has held membership at Spruce Street UMC for 21+ years. And has served as Chair of the: Witness Committee, Church Council, Lay Leader, Chancel Choir Member, and Lay-delegate to District and Annual Conference.  


Nancy Booth - Secretary

Nancy is from Morgantown and a graduate of University High School and Morgantown Business College. She lived in the Washington, DC area and was employed for many years with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. She returned to Morgantown and was employed by the U.S. Department of Interior and later became part of the WVU Foundation staff and is now the Spruce Street UMC Secretary. She has two children: Jeffery and Karen and has two grandchildren. Her favorite things include: traveling to California to visit her grandchildren, watching Washington Redskin football games, needlecraft, cooking, and flower gardening.   


Christine Hostutler - Financial Secretary

Christina is from Hundred, WV  and a graduate of Hundred High School and West Virginia Junior College.  She is also employed as an Administrative Assistant at Suncrest United Methodist Church where she has worked since 1995.  She recently opened her own portrait studio, Grins and Giggles Studio, in Hundred with her sister.  She and her husband, Jami, have one child, Zackary.  Her favorite things are photography, reading, scrapbooking, and spending time with her family.


Bonnie Johnson - Hospitality Coordinator

Bonnie first attended Spruce Street UMC at age 9. She participated in the youth choir and continues to participate in our adult choir, the WVU Choral Union, and local theatre productions. She is a Bulletin Babe, President of her Sunday School class, and once had the privilege of being part of a choral presentation at Carnegie Hall. She is a graduate of Morgantown High School and retired from the Mon County Health Department. She resides in the Morgantown community with her husband of 49 years and is the mother of 3 and grandmother of 4.  She is an active community volunteer and enjoys bowling, watercolors, and our National Parks.  


Bobbie Leach - Nursery Coordinator

Bobbie is married to Charlie Leach, with whom she has four children -Christina, Nicole, Katie and Buddy.  She is happy to hold the BEST position at Spruce Street UMC.  Come by the nursery and greet her.  She doesn't get out much for watching the kiddies!


Martha Sue Jones Neville - Volunteer Staff

Martha is a graduate of  Morgantown High School and attended WVU. She first attended Spruce Street UMC Easter Sunday 1954 and began in the Church Choir on Mother's Day 1955, she was baptized and became a church member May 24, 1959. Martha married Bill Neville in 1966 and is blessed with her stepdaughter Stephanie; and stepson Bill II; 5 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. Bill died in 1999. She was the Administrative Secretary in the West Virginia & Regional History Collection, of the WVU Library for 36 years and retired in 1997. She has served in several key lay leadership positions in the Church. Her hobbies include: photography, music, antiquing, spending time with family & friends and her special pal "Misty" the dog. She is an all out Mountaineer fan ..."Go Gold and Blue"!
